Metal industry

Supplying recycled metal, reusing metal and other cost-effective solutions to help reduce and utilise the material flows of the metal industry.

Developing the recycling society together with the metal industry

Ekokem is actively developing new cost-effective solutions to help reduce and reuse the material flows from the metal industry. We turn waste and slag into new raw materials or commodities and handle the treatment of contaminated soil or waters.

Ekokem combines good local knowledge of the metal industry with international experience, enabling open cooperation and innovative, long-term projects. The type of waste that is collected for treatment from metal industries varies a great deal by sector. The uniting factor is the large volume of unusable material generated in production.

Ekokem’s strength lies in solutions tailored individually for and in collaboration with the customer. The circular economy approach is not a new concept in the metal industry, but we have instilled it in all aspects of waste management: the minimisation of unnecessary waste, reutilisation, material and energy recycling as well as landfills.

Side-flows of the metal industry are valuable

Ekokem is involved in cooperation with its metal industry customers in several research and development projects that challenge traditional waste collection models and promote a circular economy approach, saving materials, energy and the environment. We aim to optimise the recycling of waste materials generated in production and continuously look for new uses for them, whether in the plant’s own production, to be utilised by other industries, as road construction material, for the treatment of soils and waters, as well as in environmentally responsible construction projects.

Most significant benefits to the metal industry:

  • Improvement and enhancement of processes throughout the entire chain from production to waste disposal.
  • Better know-how, more potential solution models to increase cost-effectiveness and environmental efficiency.
  • Measuring the consumer price index (CPI) as the basis for continuous growth and development.
  • Increased competence and reputation management.
  • Information on new environmental laws and regulations.

Ekokem:

  • Classifies, sorts, packs, transports, provides training on and manages the disposal of waste.
  • Analyses, optimises and separates recyclable materials from flows, directing them to reuse.
  • Participates in environmental development and construction processes by treating waters and contaminated soil, building landfills, and rendering harmless the ash released from steel incinerator furnaces, for example.
  • We implement local service and logistics solutions as well as international treatment networks.
  • We provide solution models ranging from the recycling of an individual material to the full-scale outsourcing of waste management.
